It’s time for the opening round of the 2019 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship Series. Jason Anderson will be looking to defend his title for an onslaught of challengers led by Eli Tomac, Marvin Musquin, and Ken Roczen.

Here’s what to look for on Saturday, January 5 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim, Calif. Also, don’t forget to check out my predictions for the 2019 Monster Energy Supercross season.

1. It looks like rain at Anaheim 1. According to com as of Wednesday, there’s a predicted 46 percent chance of rain on Saturday at 7 p.m. PST when racing starts. It gets worse, though — the chance of rain at 9 p.m. when the Mains start is 81 percent. Qualifying will likely be dry, with only a two percent chance of rain in the early afternoon. If it rains, anything can happen!

2. The track design will allow for some great racing at the end of the Mains. There’s a long whoop section, followed by a 135-degree left-hand turn, then a long flat straight, and finishing with a 135-degree right-hand turn just before the finish line jump. That last corner is ready for fireworks.

3. Eli Tomac will not want a repeat of 2018. After nailing the Main holeshot last year, Tomac crashed out on an unforced error. He injured his shoulder and had to sit out the next round. Tomac played catchup the rest of the year before finishing third in the championship standings.

4. It was a win for Marvin Musquin last year, though he wasn’t able to capitalize on the momentum. Musquin stood on the top step of the podium as got off to a great start for the season at A1. That came to a screeching halt when an injury kept him out of the second round Main. Musquin was just nine points shy of the title last year, so he will be looking to stay healthy for all 17 rounds.

5. Jason Anderson will be looking to stand on the podium at A1, as he did last year. Anderson’s secret to success (check out our exclusive interview with Jason Anderson from a month ago) was consistency. He is looking to repeat as champion using the same recipe in 2019—podiums are a priority, and he’ll take wins when they’re available.

6. Ken Roczen entered 2018 as a question mark, and he still is one. Two years running, Roczen has suffered debilitating injuries in the Monster Energy Supercross season that ended his campaigns prematurely. Roczen looked good at the end of the 2018 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross season, so he has at least learned how to manage the damage to both arms. Everyone will be waiting to see if he can do in Supercross what he did in the Nationals, and if he can avoid a catastrophic injury. Roczen was off the podium at A1 last year, but he’s a definite threat for 2019.

7. With a podium in 2018, Justin Barcia will want to put on a repeat performance. Barcia started 2018 with a pair of thirds, so he can start strong. He has four strong riders to contend with in 2019, so getting back on the podium will require Barcia to be 100 percent ready to go at A1. He was as a fill-in rider, and will hope to repeat coming in with a secure factory ride.

8. Riders you won’t be seeing include Benny Bloss, Zach Osborne, Weston Peick, and Broc Tickle. Peick was seriously injured in a European supercross, while Bloss and Osborne suffered serious practice injuries in December. Tickle is still on suspension from the FIM due to PEDs almost a year ago, and lost his Red Bull KTM ride. Tickle went to Instagram this week to vehemently complain about that: “I’m beyond dissatisfied that @fimlive@supercrosslivehas yet to issue me a hearing date, and has not handled things in the right manner. I have suffered enough wondering what’s next and this has taking a toll on myself, family and friends. It is now clear that the FIM and @supercrosslive are conspiring to intentionally and unlawfully interfere with my fundamental rights and ability to make a living.”

9. Expect the unexpected at Anaheim 1. Yes, that’s a cliché, and it is one that rings true every year when the Monster Energy Supercross season opens.

10. You can watch the racing live on NBCSN and NBC Sports Gold. The racing starts at 10 p.m. EST on both NBCSN and the subscription-only NBC Sports Gold streaming service. If you want to watch the 4 p.m. EST qualifying, you have to be an NBC Sports Gold subscriber. Check out and bookmark our 2019 Supercross Cable and Streaming Television Schedule.

The NFL playoffs kick off this weekend, and after handing out picks during the regular season, I couldn’t let you head into the postseason without me. So I’m back for the playoff run, and I’m bringing my remarkable record of 27-24 on the season with me. You never know, maybe I was saving my best run of the season for the playoffs.

The Chargers are the most public play of the weekend. As I type these words more than 70 percent of the bets that have been placed on this game have been placed on the Bolts. And there’s good reason why. Los Angeles is a 12-4 team with a veteran quarterback. The Ravens are 10-6 and have rookie Lamar Jackson at the helm. Rookie QBs have not fared well in their playoff games, as CBSSports.com’s John Breech went over this week. Since 2010 rookie QBs have gone 2-7 in playoff games, and both of those wins came in matchups against fellow rookie QBs. Against veteran QBs, they’re 0-5.

Well, I’m going against that trend here. First of all, the fact the Chargers have to fly across the entire country to play a game at 1 p.m. ET and 10 a.m. PT could be a problem for them, just like it’s been a problem for so many West Coast teams in the past. Furthermore, while rookie QBs may struggle in playoff games, Lamar Jackson is a little different. Jackson isn’t going to be asked to throw the ball 30 times in this game. Seahawks vs Cowboys odds, line: 2019 NFL Wild Card picks, top Playoff predictions by model on 16-6 run

Click Here To Watch Now Live

The Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks have met 13 times in the last 18 seasons, including a memorable 2007 NFC Wild Card matchup that ended in a botched hold by Tony Romo. Now, the two franchises will meet for the second time this season in an NFC Wild Card game as part of the 2019 NFL Playoffs. The Seahawks won the first meeting, 24-13, back in Week 3 thanks to three Dallas turnovers. However, Dak Prescott and the Cowboys are one of the hottest teams in the NFL after winning seven of eight to close out the regular season. And given the game is in Dallas, the home team is a two-point favorite in the latest Cowboys vs. Seahawks odds. The Over-Under, or total number of points Vegas believes will be scored, is 43, up one from the opener. Before you make your Cowboys vs. Seahawks picks and NFC Wild Card predictions, be sure to check out what SportsLine’s Projection Model has locked in.

SportsLine’s proprietary computer model went 176-80 straight-up last season and beat over 95 percent of CBS Sports Office Pool players in 2016 and ’17. It also performed better than 98 percent of experts tracked by NFLPickWatch.com during that span. Additionally, it went 48-34 on A-rated picks against the spread last season, and $100 bettors who have followed it the past two seasons are up nearly $4,000.

The model has continued to nail its top-rated picks this season, entering the wild-card round on a blistering 16-6 run. For the season, it is now 30-15 on all top-rated picks, extending its two-year run to a strong 78-49. Anyone who has followed it is way up.

Now, it has simulated Seahawks vs. Cowboys (stream live on fuboTV) 10,000 times and the results are in. We can tell you that the model is leaning toward the over, and it has also generated a point-spread pick that hits in well over 50 percent simulations. You can only see that pick at SportsLine.

Seahawks vs Cowboys Live Free Signup Tv

The computer knows that after struggling to a 3-5 start, Dallas found its rhythm by shutting down the run defensively and striking a better balance offensively. The Cowboys finished with the No. 5 run defense by allowing 80 yards or less on the ground in six of their last eight games, and they did it primarily without defensive captain Sean Lee thanks to impressive play from young linebackers Jaylon Smith and Leighton Vander Esch.

Meanwhile, doubters who thought the Cowboys had overpaid by giving up a first-round draft pick for wide receiver Amari Cooper were proven wrong. In games Dallas needed to win against the Redskins, Saints and Eagles, Cooper had 26 catches for 473 yards and five touchdowns. At the same time, running back Ezekiel Elliott took on a larger role in the passing game to help make the Cowboys’ offense more dynamic and difficult to stop.

But just because the red-hot Cowboys have home-field advantage doesn’t mean they’ll cover the NFC Wild Card spread on Saturday.

In the first meeting between Seattle and Dallas, the Seahawks were able to win despite being slightly outgained because they were able to win the turnover battle and that’s been the formula keeping the Seahawks safe all season. Pete Carroll’s squad finished the season with a plus-15 turnover margin and the Seahawks went 8-2 in games where they won the turnover battle outright.

Seahawks safety Bradley McDougald has been a major factor in creating turnovers all season, with three interceptions, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. That includes a forced fumble against Dallas in their Week 3 matchup. Considering that Earl Thomas is on injured reserve, having McDougald make a big play from the secondary or possibly Frank Clark (13 sacks and three forced fumbles) force a turnover off the edge to help win the turnover battle could be the key to Seattle covering on the road.

Who wins Seahawks vs. Cowboys? And which side of the spread hits well over 50 percent of the time? Visit SportsLine now to see which side of the spread you need to jump on Saturday, all from the computer model that has returned nearly $4,000 to $100 bettors over the past two seasons.

Extremely familiar foes will meet up in the first Wild Card Round game of the 2019 NFL Playoffs on Saturday when the Indianapolis Colts take on the Houston Texans. Kickoff is at 4:35 p.m. ET from NRG Stadium in Houston. In Indianapolis, the Texans beat the Colts by three in overtime in Week 4, while Indy exacted revenge in Week 14 in Houston, winning 24-21. In the end, the Texans edged the Colts for the AFC South crown, but oddsmakers see very little difference between thees teams, with Houston listed as a one-point favorite in the latest Texans vs. Colts odds after the line opened at 2.5. The Over-Under is set at 48.5, the highest of any NFL game this week, after opening at 48. Before making any Texans vs. Colts picks of your own, be sure to check out the NFL Wild Card predictions from SportsLine’s Projection Model.

SportsLine’s proprietary computer model went 176-80 straight-up last season and beat over 95 percent of CBS Sports Office Pool players in 2016 and ’17.

Now, it has simulated Colts vs. Texans 10,000 times and the results are in. We can tell you that the model is leaning toward the over, and it also says one side of the spread has all the value. You can only see that pick at SportsLine.

The computer is well aware that Houston features a high-flying offense that can hurt opponents in a multitude of ways. The Texans are led by quarterback Deshaun Watson, who is a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses. Watson completed over 68 percent of his passes this season for 4,165 yards, 26 touchdowns and just nine interceptions. The second-year signal caller can also take over a game with his legs. In fact, Watson finished the season with 551 rushing yards and has scored three rushing touchdowns in his last two games.

Watson’s top receiver, DeAndre Hopkins, is also a big-time playmaker who recorded over 1,500 yards receiving for the second time in his career. And Hopkins, who finished the season with 11 touchdown catches, has had major success against the Colts already this season, recording 14 receptions for 205 yards and two touchdowns.

But just because the Texans have been dominant on offense and hold home-field advantage doesn’t mean they’ll cover the AFC Wild Card spread on Saturday.

Texans vs Colts Live Stream Football Free Signup Tv

The model also knows few gave the Colts a chance after a 1-5 start. But as quarterback Andrew Luck got his comfort level back coming off a major shoulder injury, Indy’s offense began to take flight.

The Colts won nine of their last 10 games, scoring at least 23 points in all of those victories. They hit 30 points four times during that span as well, including a decisive 33-17 victory over the Titans in Week 17 that allowed them to claim the final AFC Wild Card spot. The Colts are just the third team to make the NFL Playoffs after starting 1-5.

Luck’s resurgence was the catalyst, but help from key offensive players like wide receiver T.Y. Hilton, tight end Eric Ebron, and running back Marlon Mack can’t be overlooked. Ebron’s 13 receiving touchdowns were tied for second in the league, trailing only Antonio Brown’s 15, while Hilton finished in the top 10 with 16.7 yards per reception.

Houston went 11-5 and won the AFC South this season, while Indianapolis went 10-6 and finished in second. The teams split two meetings this season, with the Texans winning 37-34 in overtime and the Colts winning 24-21.

Preview

DeAndre Hopkins had the best season of his career, carrying Houston’s receivers in a year the group was decimated by injuries.

Now the self-described best receiver in the NFL will need another big performance for the Texans to get a win over the Colts in the wild-card game on Saturday.

“I feel like I’m a leader of this team, not just this offense,” Hopkins said. “I was named captain, so for me to go out and play my best game is important, not just for me but for this team.”

Live streaming for Texans-Colts is available via Watch ESPN or via the NFL app.

Hopkins finished the regular season with a career-high 1,572 yards receiving, which ranked second in the NFL, and his 115 receptions tied a franchise record set by Andre Johnson in 2008. His 11 touchdown receptions were fifth in the league and tied for the second most in his career after he grabbed a franchise-record 13 last season.

His performance comes in a season when the Texans lost starting receiver Will Fuller to a torn knee ligament in October, and Demaryius Thomas to an Achilles tendon injury two weeks ago. Houston got solid production from Keke Coutee midway through the season, but the rookie has missed the last five games with a hamstring injury, leaving Hopkins to carry an even bigger load than usual.

Coach Bill O’Brien is wowed by the sixth-year player nearly every day, and when asked about him this week he noted Hopkins had just made a nifty one-handed grab in practice a few minutes earlier.

“He just has a great skill set, really smart player, excellent competitor, can really make the contested catch, he can line up inside, he can line up outside, he can do a lot of different things, and he’s come up real big for us,” O’Brien said. “He has 115 catches and they’ve all been important catches. He’s a leading third-down target. … He always impresses me.”

He’s so good and consistent that second-year quarterback Deshaun Watson admitted he’s tempted to throw it to him on every play.

“For sure,” Watson said. “Usually he’s going to make a play happen regardless if you think he’s open. If he’s not open, he’s open.”

Hopkins has a knack for making catches at key moments, with 81 of his 115 receptions resulting in a first down or a touchdown. And an even more impressive statistic, according to Pro Football Focus, is that he does not have a single drop this season on catchable targets.

After that statistic was released, a meme featured a picture of Hopkins with a bottle of glue in one of his hands bearing a label that read: ‘Hopkins’ Catch-All Multi-Purpose WR, extra strong formula, no drop.’ Hopkins was amused by the meme and his tweet of it received more than 68,000 likes.

But he said he’s more concerned about being consistent than the fact he hasn’t dropped a ball all season.

“That’s my goal every day. Being consistent, not just on the football field but in life,” he said. “Playing football is something I love doing, and being named as one of the best is something that I work hard for because I think everybody wants to be the best at their position. Otherwise why would you play your position? So, to get that recognition from whoever made that, that was pretty cool … I know that if I don’t drop a ball, it’s going to lead to something good.”

Watson didn’t have to play with Hopkins long to realize he wasn’t like most receivers and that his skills could help make up for some of the young quarterback’s mistakes.

“I found that out last year when I was throwing to him. It’s ridiculous,” Watson said. “My first start in Cincinnati last year, some balls there I kind of threw high. Some stop routes. I’d come over and be like: ‘Hey, it’s my bad. I’m going to get it down,’ and he was just like: ‘No, I want it just like that. I want it high. I want it outside. I want it low,’ and he just found a way to get it.”

His production this season is even more impressive considering he’s been hampered by minor injuries, but still started every game. While those injuries never kept him out on game day, they limited his practice time, which he acknowledges was difficult.

“It’s been challenging not being able to practice with my guys like I want to, being out there, just having fun with the fellas,” he said. “That’s why I look forward to coming to work every day, just being around my teammates, not just going out there and making plays on Sunday.

“It’s been challenging from that aspect, but it’s been good,” he continued. “My play has correlated to us winning games, so I feel like me personally, this is my best season. We won the division. Best record I’ve had since I’ve been here yet.”

And now Hopkins and the Texans will try to build on that success as they chase their first championship.
